Wii Fan Peter Moore leaves Microsoft

July 19th, 2007

Peter Moore the previous head of the Microsoft Xbox has left to join Electronic Arts. He will now be working under EA’s Sports Division. Needless to say he was one of the few Xbox employees who loved the Nintendo Wii. He is also the man who suggested the Wii60 where the consumer gets both the Wii and Xbox 360. One for the innovative play and the other for intense graphics.

Miyamoto talks Earthbound, Kid Icarus, More

July 19th, 2007

An excerpt from the Full review

“I’ve been very involved in a lot of the software that you’ve seen—both with the launch of the Wii and the launch of the DS. On the DS I was particularly involved in Nintendogs very heavily. On Wii I’ve been very involved with Wii Sports and this game—Wii Fit. But of course, right now I’m very, very deeply into Super Mario Galaxy. We didn’t have an opportunity to talk about that game at the media briefing today, so, I’m hoping the press will have questions for me about it.”

“…my development teams aren’t working on either of those franchises right now. Of course Nintendo has a lot of development teams that it works with. On those development teams are a lot of people that are Nintendo fans and on those teams there are a lot of people who are constantly telling us, “Oh we want to make a new Kid Icarus.” So you never know when something like that might happen…As for Mother, [ed: Earthbound], that’s a slightly more complicated matter that I can’t really answer because it’s really up to Mr. Itoi is to whether or not he’s interested in continuing that franchise. But I can say that Mr. Itoi and I are still on very good terms and we enjoy working together.”

THQ: High-end games not for Wii, Development Costs

June 22nd, 2007

Excerpt:

“We think this next-generation is all about segmenting the market. It’s no longer about taking one game and putting it on all platforms. The guy doing Frontlines isn’t going to put it on the Wii. It belongs on the Xbox 360, PS 3 and the PC. It’s a high-end, core gamer multiplayer title. It doesn’t belong on the Wii. There are some things I can’t talk about on the Wii that we don’t want to put on the PS 3 or Xbox 360.”

“Where costs are occurring in this generation are in asset and content creation. And since the Wii is not high-definition, and it can still look good. You have to remember a lot of game systems aren’t yet hooked up to high-def TVs. Content creation is costing all the money. With the Wii, you can look great at a third of the cost sometimes.”

Today’s SSBB Update

June 18th, 2007

Link's Triforce

In today’s SSBB update we learn about Link’s final smash attack. Its the Triforce of course, how beautiful it is to see.

“Is he using the Triforce to slash enemies? Or is it the Triforce doing the slashing?

You don’t have time to ponder such questions, as Link has just grabbed a Smash Ball.
If you suffer this fate, there is little hope for you. But remember: damage alone will not finish you in Smash.

If you’re lucky enough to strike solid ground, you just might be saved.”

Article: Kinder, not killer, video games

June 18th, 2007

Many large Publishing companies are trying to break into the casual gamers market that Nintendo exposed with the DS, Wii, and Brain age. Find out what EA and Ubisoft are doing by reading the article.

Excerpt:

“Critics may fume about what they term violent “killer video games,” but top manufacturers are on the brink of beating some of their swords into beauty tips. By the fall season, software developers will start introducing new offerings designed to nudge players to bond with Grandma, balance their hormones and eat their peas.”

“(an asst. Professor in Denmark) “Wii has had a huge impact and so has its game ‘BrainAge,’ which basically showed all the game industry that you don’t have to have great graphics. You don’t have to have the most powerful technology. You can do it very simply and quite frankly make a lot of money easily”

IGN Wii-ik in Review Summary

June 15th, 2007

Coming straight from Neogaf. Halo DS on its way?? Maybe at least that’s what Matt is hinting at. Really glad to hear that the Project Hammer rumour is only a rumour.

- They went to a bunch events this week (the usual names) they can’t talk about, but good things are coming. Its “E3 mode” for devs.

- Project Hammer rumor comes up. He reiterates concerns we’ve heard, still its a rumor. Matt said he’s talked to another studio who had a “hardcore game”, and Nintendo told them to “mix that one up” as well to allow the “mainstream” to play it.

- Harry Potter is pretty good. If your a Harry Potter fan you should like it. No loading in the world, looks pretty good, great atmosphere, and good use of the Wiimote sometimes. Problems are the controls don’t always work, bad transition to cut scenes (minor complaint he says), and the camera has some problems.

- They are kicking off a “buy Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure campaign” (they did this with Eternal Darkness, they remind to buy ED again for those who missed it). Matt says its one of his top 3 Wii games. He says don’t judge it by looks or the name. It could be the hardest game on Wii (I’ve heard this before, it supposedly has 2hr puzzles). They are telling Capcom they should do downloadable levels on Wii Connect24. Pre-order it.

- The Bigs is fun. There is some lag. Check the latest preview for the basic run down of it. Too much motion in some areas but good in other areas. They said hopefully the recent build wasn’t final and they can fix some of these problems.

- Matt brings up Halo DS and he said the “nay sayers are bought to be owned next week or so”.

- More info coming on the games you know about and some new stuff. The new stuff looks like quality. Matt is hoping to unveil something original next week.

- If you liked Godfather you should like Scarface. They think its better than Godfather.
